Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from parents across India and NRIs in Canada.

About the service

Will the match know you're coming?+

Yes, always. We introduce ourselves openly before any meeting. The match receives a consent link explaining the purpose of the visit and must sign before we proceed.

Is this like a private investigator?+

No. We are the opposite of a PI. PIs often work covertly. Everything we do is transparent and with the match's knowledge. Think trusted family friend, not investigator.

Is this legal in Canada?+

Yes. Meeting someone openly with their consent is entirely legal. We comply with PIPEDA (Canada) and respect the Indian DPDP Act for data collected from Indian residents.

What if the match refuses to give consent?+

The case cannot proceed. You receive a full refund of your deposit. We do not pressure anyone to consent.

Do you serve my city?+

We currently serve Southern Ontario — the GTA (Brampton, Mississauga, Toronto, and nearby cities) and Zone 2 (Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Niagara, Barrie, and surrounding cities). Matches in Zone 2 have a small $100 travel surcharge. For other cities — London, Ottawa, or outside Ontario — please join our waitlist at vicholan.com/waitlist and we'll email you the moment we expand. In some cases we can serve your match if a Toronto-area contact helps coordinate; chat with us on WhatsApp.

The process

How long does it take from start to report?+

7–14 days for standard packages. 5 days for Express add-on. Depends on match availability.

What does the meeting look like?+

A relaxed conversation at a café, park, or wherever the match is comfortable. We don't interrogate — we talk, observe, and take mental notes. A home visit is included in Pehchaan and Pariwar packages.

What does the report include?+

Photos, written observations on appearance vs bio-data, living situation, lifestyle, job/education reality, family values, and our honest gut assessment.

Can I give you specific things to check?+

Yes. The intake form has a 'specific concerns' field. You can ask us to focus on anything — job verification, drinking, PR status, anything.

Is the report confidential?+

Yes. The report is only shared with the parent who commissioned it. It is watermarked with your name and case ID.

Payments & refunds

How does payment work?+

50% deposit to start the case. Balance is due before the meeting takes place. All payments via Stripe (CAD). Indian parents pay in CAD; your card issuer handles the INR conversion. INR billing via Razorpay coming in v2.

What currency can I pay in?+

CAD for Canada-based clients, INR for India-based clients. INR pricing is set to reflect purchasing power parity, not a direct currency conversion.

Can I get a refund?+

Full refund if consent is not obtained. Partial refund (deposit minus processing fees) if cancelled within 48 hours of scheduling. No refund after the meeting is completed.

Do you have family packages or discounts?+

Referral credits are available — ask for your referral code after your case is completed. We're also exploring group discounts for families with multiple children.

Is the add-on for extra consultation worth it?+

Many parents find the 30-minute call most valuable. It's the moment to ask everything you were hesitant to put in writing.
